Florida Fight Leads to Defensive Shooting

Featured in:

A man is dead and a woman injured following a defensive shooting this past weekend at Notting Hill Condominiums in Lake Mary, Florida.

According to ClickOrlando.com, deputies responded to the scene shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5. They found a man with life-threatening gunshot wounds and a woman with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the hand. Both were transported to a hospital, where the man was pronounced dead.

Authorities said the incident began as an argument between the suspected shooter and the man. When the suspected shooter attempted to leave, the man reportedly followed him to his vehicle and attacked him. Fearing for his safety, the suspected shooter retrieved a firearm and opened fire, striking both the man and the woman who tried to intervene inside the vehicle.

Detectives confirmed the individuals involved were known to each other and described the incident as isolated. After consulting with the State Attorney’s Office, the sheriff’s office indicated the shooting appears to have been in self-defense, and no charges have been filed at this time.
